Australian Indie Rock trio, Mansionair emerged from Sydney with self-produced album “Shadowboxer” in 2019. The quick to fame trio spent 3 years mastering the debut album reflecting on the bands creative and personal situations at the time creating a 16 song album which shadows their life as they created the album. The culmination of a journey that started with a viral hit single “Violent City” which led to series of high profile collaborations including “Odesza” and “Wynne” the trio landed a Grammy-nomination, ARIA & Billboard charting singles and several major support tours for the likes of CHVRCHES, Florence and the Machine and London Grammar. Most recently the trio reached a career defining moment performing at the 2019 Coachella music and arts festival signifying their prestige in the music industry.

My 42 year old boss was actually the first person who introduced me into the transfixing sound of Mansionair playing the new album one close at work earlier this year. He noted it as his easily favourite album of the year which shows the bands ability to reach a diverse ranch of audience through producing likeable music which isn’t suited towards trends in the industry. The story of the album being shaped around the band members coming of age stories is a reflection of the sound itself – shaped by something entirely personal and unique.

 

3 years before the debut album

 

I’ve decided to show a clip of the trio’s first single “Speak Easy” to show how talented this band is and how unlike so many artists their debut single was perfection as it stood. Debuting in 2015, the four year gap between this single and album “Shadowboxer” reveals that the band didn’t rush into making a meaningless album based on the talent they already possessed, rather they took the time to experience life and write an amazing album from it. I’d also like to point out how smooth and dreamy front man, Jack Froggatts angelic voice is – the main reason I enjoy manionair’s music so much.

The creation of this album is really something to me and the deeply personal nature of it gives the album a total next level for me. This interview really shows the trio’s down to earth nature and knowledge for music which is really appealing to someone like myself who is fascinated by the behind the scenes of developing music.

Performing at one of the biggest and most prestigious music festivals in the world with their debut album is such a significant career moment for this band and thus the reason I have chosen to share it. You can tell a mixture of nerves, excitement and complete awe are struck over the band with a hint of shaky vocals and a little lacklustre stage presence however, for a band of this age it’s understandable and remains a huge achievement.
