January 2019 saw the introduction of Sandstone Point Hotel in Bribie Island to the Australian music festival scene holding the brand new “For Shore Festival”. From what I had heard from locals the owner of Sandstone Point hotel was an avid music lover and was keen to take advantage of the large grassed area surrounding the hotel grounds to become the music festival venue for Bribie Island.
When a new festival hits the scene the lineup is detrimental to whether the festival sticks around or falls short. The two Australian headliners, “Pnau” and “The Presets” were what sold the festival to myself and my friends and it seemed everyone else was impressed as well with the festival selling out it’s first ever to an estimated 10,000 people. Since it’s first festival in January Sandstone Point Hotel have held a number of other one day festivals under the same “For Shore Festival” branding.
At $90 a ticket the one day festival was priced fairly reasonably but was it worth going to? Held on a beautiful sunny day in Bribie Island the day was picture perfect for a music festival. My friends and I were lucky that our friend’s grandparents lived a short 15minute walk to the hotel so we had a big group of people round to pre drink before heading into the festival around 5pm for “Wafia”. The set up was impressive with heaps of space to chill out and watch the music, an impressive sized mosh pit, heaps of bars and food sources and the hotel itself putting on food and drinks. The atmosphere was happy and
relaxed and by the time headliner “The Presets” performed everyone was at the perfect level of festival drunk to mosh to their electronic beats. The main headliner “Pnau” closed the show with what I believed to be one of the best headlining sets I had seen in a while. The band pulled out all the stops, an hour long set with favourites from older and recent albums, choreographed dance sequences, fire displays, glow in the dark art displays within the performance and a fireworks display to most popular song “Chameleon”.
I remember thinking to myself, this is where our money went, to talented and popular acts, to creating a headlining set that actually had a point of difference to the rest of the festival all at a truly beautiful location. I was really impressed at the ease of getting to and from the hotel which all together made the one day event worthwhile and a memory treasured in myself and all of my friends hearts.
