Chicago born musician Juice WRLD blends R&B instrumentation, dreamy beats and indie rock melodies into a heavily emotional debut album “Goodbye & Good Riddance”. Jarad Higgins goes by the stage name Juice WRLD and has received explosive success for his hit singles “Lucid Dreams” and “Armed and Dangerous”. I first heard of Juice WRLD in December 2018 from a friend and a big fan of the Chicago rapper and a few weeks later watched him perform at Falls Festival in Byron Bay. For a 21 year old with over 21 million listeners world wide, the main standout for me is the artists emotional and unique lyrics. His ability to touch millions of people all in different situations and circumstances in life is an impressive quality given his young age. “Lucid Dreams” is a particular favourite predominately for the softness of the melody combined with the heavy almost dominating beat, similar to that of from his newest album “Death Race for Love” single, “Robbery”. I love when artists open up and explain the writing and producing stages of one of their hit singles. This video shows the 21 year olds raw talent and ability to keep production easy and simple yet come out with a hit adored by millions. As much as I love the final production of an album or a hit single the behind the scenes imperfection is what impresses and intrigues me the most.

 

We Hear you Juice WRLD

Performing “Hear me Calling” on The Tonight Show, this is one of my favourite performances from Juice WRLD. My love for live music is driven by the rawness and combination of instruments sounds to create one big flow. There’s nothing and no one to hide from when performing live and in my opinion the ability to perform well is what makes or breaks a musician. As a true talent, Juice WRLD gives the audience what they want and lets them in on a different way of hearing the popular song. Changing up the melody  and pairing it back a notch lets the instrumental audio be heard in it’s full beauty and compliments the lyrical power of the song. I really enjoy the way he performed the song here.
